Comedienne Kaye Ballard could not speak about Lucy without mentioning Desi. Despite their remarriages, she maintained, “She was in love with him until the end. And he was in love with her.” Actress Paula Stewart agreed, privately quoting a comment made [after Lucy’s 1989 death] by [Lucy’s second husband] Gary Morton, “I guess she’s happy now. She’s with Desi.”

I’m just not one of those naturally funny, relaxed actors who enjoy the spotlight and are so good at it.

There’s a line in the film where Ryan’s character says, “I never had my father and look at the way I turned out.” I think there’s this kind of shame in his character. He’s marked. And he sees this boy that’s clean, that has no marks, that hasn’t been tainted. There is this overwhelming feeling of responsibility. This character takes responsibility because it’s something so pure in his life and he never had that. - Derek Cianfrance

On January 26, 2006, while driving down a winding canyon road in Hollywood, Phoenix ran off the road and rolled his car. The crash reportedly was caused by brake failure. Shaken and confused, Phoenix heard a tapping on his window and a voice say, “Just relax.” Unable to see the man, Phoenix replied, “I’m fine. I am relaxed.” The man replied, “No, you’re not,” and stopped Phoenix from lighting a cigarette while gas was leaking into the car cabin. Phoenix then realized that the man was famed film director Werner Herzog. While Herzog helped Phoenix out of the wreckage by breaking the back window of the car, bystanders phoned for an ambulance. Phoenix approached Herzog to express gratitude, but Herzog downplayed his heroism and returned to his home nearby.

I’ve often speculated that Jimmy’s preoccupation with the drums was more an interest in sound, than in the instrument itself; drums, motorcycles, sports cars - all vibrated with a powerfull sound to which he responded.- Dennis Stock
When you develop sort of a friendship with somebody over the years, there’s just a trust factor there. We both know that we have the best intentions for each other, but we also know that we can sorta push each other’s limits.
